Perfect Motorcycle Washing: Get Her Clean
Motorcycle maintenance is routine for many riders. Motorcycle maintenance is easier than taking care of a child. Even with regular upkeep, though, motorcycles are impacted from various elements in the environment. Careful washing of the motorcycle is important so as to not scratch the finish. Dirt and grime can get rubbed into the finish when washing or drying creating a sandpaper effect. If you want to maintain the motorcycle's brilliance remember that anything that touches it should be made of soft material. Most often, the culprit is a zipper. Cotton cloths or towels are okay as long as they are clean. All buckets, sponges, mitts, and towels must be clean and dirt free when it touches your bike. Use plenty of water and rinse thoroughly. One of the best things you can do is divide the motorcycle into normal and rough areas. Washing the motorcycle in normal areas requires one set of mitts and sponges while a completely different set is used for the rough areas. Rough area is where the tires, engine and inner fenders are. Too often dirt and grime is transferred from the rough area to the sensitive area during washing. If you can keep dirt away from the sensitive areas then scratching can be avoided. Motorcycle maintenance is about proper washing too. Use gentle streams of water instead blasting the bike with high intensity. Try to avoid washing motorcycles with water pressure nozzles completely. Water can be just as damaging to the motorcycle if its used too harshly. Rinse generously and work from the top down. Free flowing water is enough to wash away dirt with out scratching the motorcycle. Along with copious amounts of gentle flowing water, use detergents specifically intended for motorcycle washing. Ordinary detergents are harsh enough to remove the wax you want to keep. Once you are using the proper motorcycle washing detergent, make sure you rinse all the soap away; otherwise soap left behind can develop into crust. Dried soap can caused scratches and is difficult to remove during washing. The time of day matters too when washing motorcycles. Sunlight can dry soap suds quickly leaving behind a film. What you want to do is begin washing your motorcycle in the evening or early morning. With proper motorcycle washing you can maintain a beautiful bike.
